Steve Jackson's Sorcery!

  • Description
Steve Jackson's 1983 take on the 'choose your own adventure' solitaire game using a multiple-choice paragraph system and 2D6s for resolving combat (in case a couple six-sided dice can't be found, dice rolls are listed on each page of the book to randomly flip to) and memory-based spells.Sorcery! uses a combat system similar to 'The Warlock of Firetop Mountain' where you can choose to be a warrior and battle creatures with weapons only using dice to resolve combat. Or you can follow the path of the wizard using spells listed in the separate 'Sorcery! Spell Book.' Each spell is given a three letter code and must be memorized prior to starting of the game (the spell book must not be referenced once the game has begun). There are four books in the series 'The Shamutanti Hills', 'Khare - Cityport of Traps', 'The Seven Serpents' and 'The Crown of Kings' plus the optional book to play the wizard 'The Sorcery! Spell Book'. The spell book was later included in the backs of 'The Seven Serpents', 'The Crown of Kings' and in the later reprints of all of the books. An interesting 'choose your own adventure' style game with a twist featuring a variety of risks and rewards and innovative combat mechanics. - BoardGameGeek
