Phantoms

    Phantoms is a quick and easy modern air combat game covering air combat from 1960 to the present.

    Phantoms is a hex based set of miniatures rules for modern era jet combat. The basic system is a modified version of the Mustangs board game from Avalon Hill. The game uses 1/285 or 1/300th scale miniatures on flight stands(although counters to represent altitude will also work) that maneuver on a hex mat. Each aircraft has a data sheet that tracks speed, maneuvers, and available weapons. Players place maneuver markers on hexes that represent where different maneuvers will take place according to their speed and altitude. When the aircraft moves to that hex(using an impulse system) the aircraft performs that maneuver. Missile and gun combat is resolved by having each player roll 1D10 with modifiers and comparing the results. Phantoms can be played by large groups with each player easily being able to fly two aircraft. There is a supplement for ground combat called Intruders that covers AAA and SAMs along with an airstrike scenario generator. Data cards are available for jets from the early Arab-Israeli Wars to the present.
