Drachenspiel

  • Description

Known as the "Dragon Game," players attempt to capture the dragon by rolling specific colored that allow them to place control pegs in locations surrounding the dragon. But beware, the dragon can destroy these pieces around him as well. The player who gets his colored pegs in all four areas has successfully captured the dragon winning the game.

The board contains 4 different "treasures" that the dragon is guarding: a ring, a treasure chest, a pendant and a crown. The drawings have holes that you fill with different colored pegs, depending on how you roll the dice.

The dice are six-sided and have a color instead of a number on each side. Each player is given one die and they choose a treasure. All the treasures have the same number of openings and color mix, so it really doesn't matter which one you are playing.

The dragon's mouth also has peg holes, and this is where the fun starts. Everytime someone rolls the color black, the dragon gets a tooth. If the dragon's mouth gets all of his teeth before all the players fill in their treasures, the dragon wins -- and everyone looses.

The rules allow you to help fill in the treasures for the other players, so if you fill in all your green jewels, but you roll a green, you can plug a green hole in another players treasure. You all win or loose together, so you want to do this.

If you roll white, you have two options -- you can plug in one of the white pegs in your treasure (or someone elses) or you can pull out a tooth from the dragon's mouth. If the dragon doesn't have any teeth, you have no choice but to plug a white peg into one of the treasures, and there is a trick to that. You can only pull out teeth from the dragon's mouth if you still have open white holes in your treasure. Once you fill in all of your white "jewels" you can no longer pull out dragon teeth, so if the dragon has no teeth and you roll white, see if any of the other players have open white holes so everyone is able to pull out dragon teeth.

Once everyone fills in all their white holes, you are pretty much doomed to loose unless you are really, really close to filling in everyone's treasures. If you roll a green and no one needs a green, for example, there's nothing you can do and it always seems like we are all waiting to fill in one last color that no one ever rolls -- and then everyone starts rolling black and the dragon wins. It's really fun when everything works out and the dragon is defeated.

This is a good game for children and/or people who have a hard time loosing or being cut out of a game, as everyone keeps playing until everyone wins or the dragon wins.
