Bilrallyspelet Monte Carlo

  • Description

Bilrallyspelet Monte Carlo is a game that was produced in Sweden in 1966 in cooperation with Svenska Aeroplan Aktiebolaget (SAAB) AB, the original parent company of Saab-Scania and later Saab Aerospace and the automaker Saab. The players race miniature SAAB model 96s (the car that won the Monte Carlo Rally in the early '60's, hence the name of the game and the trim package of the later model 96s) around a serpentine board, collecting bonuses and avoiding the police.

This game was produced in small numbers in Sweden in 1966, and is ridiculously rare, both in Sweden AND in the US. The Saab Automobile Museum in Trollhattan, Sweden, has one copy of the game that is beat to death and contains only one original car playing piece. The set you see int he pictures I picked up on the Swedish auction site Tradera for a big pile of money, and it's money well spent, as this copy of the game is near-mint and has never been played!

The ultimate collectible if you are, like me, a Saab fanatic as well as a board gamer!
